Our skin is the largest organ of the body and it forms a protective covering around our bodies that holds and protects all our inner structures. It is also waterproof so that we do not dry up in the heat or melt in the rain, and it protects us from the damaging effects of radiation from sunlight. Our skin has to be tough enough to act as a shield against injury, yet supple enough to allow movement. Skin is made of two layers. The outer layer is the epidermis and the inner layer is the dermis.
