Dull skin, blotchy skin or uneven skin tone

Our skin is the largest organ of the body and it forms a protective covering around our bodies that holds and protects all our inner structures. It is also waterproof so that we do not dry up in the heat or melt in the rain, and it protects us from the damaging effects of radiation from sunlight.

Our skin has to be tough enough to act as a shield against injury, yet supple enough to allow movement. It also keeps our internal temperature constant by either conserving heat or cooling the body. It is in short a wonder of nature and is one of the hardest working organs of the body.

Skin is made of two layers. The outer layer is the epidermis and the inner layer is the dermis.

The epidermis consists of cells that are constantly dividing and moving up to the surface, where they flatten, die and shed. It takes three to four weeks for a cell in the lowest layer to reach the skins surface.

The dermis is made up of bundles of collagen and elastin fibres. The clearer the surface of the skin is the better for the toxins to be removed.

Diet can play a huge part in how healthy your skin is as well. A diet full of fresh fruit and vegetables will give your skin the internal boost it needs to ensure that the new cells that are continually being produced are receiving the vital nutrients they need to produce healthy vital cells. A good intake of water is essential to prevent dehydration as this will impact the skin as well. At least 1 ½ litres should be drunk daily to ensure good hydration and elimination of toxins through the kidneys.

Our skin is the most visible part of, and however careful we are it is still susceptible to environmental, physical and hormonal conditions which can make your skin tone appear blotchy and uneven. For some freckles, liver-spots, and uneven pigmentation areas can be a source of concern. This is where skin brighteners can be used to help the appearance of those trouble spots safely with nature's finest ingredients.

There are many ingredients in nature that help to improve the skins appearance, so look out for them.

  • Arbutin: Extracted from the bearberry plant, and also found in wheat and pear skins, Arbutin helps reduce the appearance of dark areas.

  • Lumiskin: (Diacetyl Boldine) inhibits Tryosinase to help lighten the appearance of the skin and promote more even looking skin tone.

  • Shea Butter: Derived from the nut of the Karite Nut tree (mangifolia), Shea butter has been used by African women for centuries for both cooking and for its healing properties in skin care. It contains natural sun protectors and emollients, and is used in many moisturizers, soaps and skin creams to firm and tighten skin.

  • Evening Primrose Oil: Used as a food and natural medicine throughout history, Primrose is effective in skin care to help alleviate dry skin.

  • Allantoin: A botanical extract of the comfrey plant, Allantoin is a natural-identical, non-toxic moisturiser that promotes the health of the outer dermal layer.

  • Grapefruit Seed Extract: Used as a preservative, this extract is a natural antioxidant.

  • Vitamins A, C and E: Because it has a fundamental role in the control of normal skin cell activity, Vitamin A is very important to healthy skin, and adding the antioxidant vitamins C and E gives this important skin nutrient extra support
